Topic: Understanding Personality Disorder
Speaker: Dr. Bruce Stevens
Dr Bruce A. Stevens is a Canberra Clinical and Forensic Psychology.
He has a part-time faculty appointment at Charles Sturt University.
He has written three books, the most recent is Mirror, Mirror: When
self love affects a relationship (2001) about narcissism. His area of
research is personality disorder and he has published refereed articles
in journals such as Psychotherapy in Australia (2003) and Australiasian
Journal of Psychotherapy (2002).
This presentation explored characteristic aspects of personality disorder
– what psychoanalytic authors have called the Grandiose Self. This distortion
of personality is highly relevant to understanding impossible relationships
whether romantic, in a family or at work. Some practical tips were offered
followed by a general discussion.
