Topic: Avian Influenza
Speaker: Julia Landford
Julia has had a varied academic background in anthropology and education/training
in Australia and overseas. She has worked with AusAID – the Australian
International Development agency – for the past five years. During
this time she has managed the agency’s training and development
programs, the PNG education program, and has been responsible for a
major review of the agency’s quality and reporting systems.
Julia currently manages the Emerging Infectious Diseases program in
the Asia Transboundary Section and is responsible for AusAID’s
programs relating to emerging infectious diseases, including avian influenza,
in the Asia Region. She holds a Masters Degree in Applied Anthropology
and Participatory Development from the ANU and also brings to the program
twenty years of life experience from Papua New Guinea.
This presentation will provide an overview of Avian Influenza as an
emerging infectious disease, and will outline the Australian government’s
recent work - in close consultation with countries and organisations
in the Asia Pacific region - to reduce the spread and potential impact
of this and other diseases.
