Inc. Meeting Report
Topic: A MEDIAEVAL FEAST FOR 800
Speaker: ROBYN HODGKIN
Robyn left the people at the lunch feeling quite exhausted after she
described to us the organisation required to prepare an authentic mediaeval
feast for 800. The group doing it is the Society for Creative Anachronisms.
There are such groups all over the world; Australia now has enough members
to appoint its own King and Queen.
Dress is 16th Century German style.
The theme is 'the firmament'
THE MENU - a few items from the menu include - For the Entremements
Platter- brie tarts, mushroom pastries, darioles
First course- Almond Cumin Dish, Lowtes of Almaund Mylke, Rice Castles
and Eggs in Mustard Sauce, Mushrooms and Coriander, Ember Day tarts.
Second Course -Beetroot Tart, Smoked Trout Pastries, Roast Lamb and
green garlic sauce served on savoury barley.
Third Course - Symbals, Quince Paste, Macaroons, Marzipan Some of the
quantities required are - 140 litres of soup, 500 mushroom tarts, 50
kilograms of venison, 50 Kilograms of lamb, 12 kilograms of biscuits.
To get all this made and the hall in Queanbeyan decorated, cooking and
decorating workshops were held. No hall could be found in Canberra which
was big enough and where they could do their own cooking. Recipes from
Mediaeval times have been tried out at dinner parties among members.
To raise extra money for the event a market day is to be held in Queanbeyan
Park .
