Topic: REPORT OF
THE IFUW CONFERENCE
Speakers: At our September meeting Rosemary Everett,
Reet Bergman, and Virginia Passmore gave us reports of their experiences
at the August IFUW conference held in Perth.
The social side of the conference with its opportunity to catch up
with old acquaintances or make many new ones was the highlight of the
conference for some of the attendees.Ü An essential accessory to any
of the functions was your nametag, without which you did not get fed
at lunch, dinners or tea breaks.Ü The social side started with a reception
following the opening ceremony.Ü Finger food and good conversation were
available, but only those who got in early ate hearty.Ü Those not close
to the door or in the path of the waiters missed out, as the attendees
were greater than the amount of food.Ü This prompted our own Gretchen
Keelty to write a humorous article for the conference newsletter on
tips for surviving receptions.Ü I intend to use them next time. The
Australian night sponsored by the Australian Division and held at the
Art Gallery was a great success. Ausssie food such as sausage rolls,
barbequed snags, fish (barramundi) and chips and drinks where enjoyed
and enlightening to overseas members.Ü Entertainment and a tour of parts
of the gallery made for an enjoyable evening.Ü The Sheraton put on some
very good buffet lunches and morning and afternoon teas that satisfied
the inner woman.Ü The fresh fruit at lunch was a big hit and some of
us who were slow to get in line missed out on that part of the lunch.Ü
The Virginia Gildersleeve lunches provided the same food as for the
non VG lunch attendees but was highlighted by reports and slides of
the projects undertaken by the VG funds.ÜÜÜ Last and not least was the
Farewell Dinner.Ü A large attendanceÜwith plenty of good food and wine
flowing insured a happy crowd.Ü The Young Members treated the assembled
to someÜvery funny skits and songs.Ü The night ended with the Pacific
Group Network performing a rendition of "Waltzing Matilda".Ü Too bad
some of us didn't knowÜsome of the words, but we came in strongly on
the chorus.
